After a child learns all the sounds of the alphabet, they are ready to learn to read. Typically, they would start with basic decodable books. 

Decodable means each word is can be broken down by sound and syllables. A beginner reader should be able to sound out each word in a decodable book since they know the alphabet sounds. 

When a child is ready to read and tackle a decodable book, they start with basic decodable books. These books will have a strong focus on CVC words like c-a-t, b-a-t, and s-u-n. 

So, as long as the young reader knows the sounds of the alphabet, these words are easily decodable. 

There is an emphasis on repetition and images to give the child a clue of what they will be reading. Typically, each page stands alone and there is rarely an actual story or message.

After a young reader succeeds at these basic decodable books, they can begin with our advanced decodable books. 

Our books teach words that have these multi-letter phonograms (reading codes). Each book has a meaningful story and they don’t rely solely on image cues. 

The young reader learns to decode words with those special multi-letter phonogram sounds.

We do not label our books with a level. Instead, we made them into a full series that progresses in difficulty. 

We encourage all readers to start with book 1 to get a good handle on the reading code and then progress when they are ready for more words on a line, with more vocabulary and more of a challenge.

No! Our books differ completely from other decodable books. They are full of colour with meaningful stories for each book. 

We designed them so the first book has repetition and they progress with difficulty through to book 5.

Yes! They work on tablets and IPads. You can also read them up on computers and iPhones.

The books have colourful and vibrant images that are included on each page - but not all pages give away what the sentence is saying. 

This is key because a good reader will assess the word first before looking at the pictures.

Where a basic decodable book will have 8-10 pages, our advanced decodable books have about 20 pages in each of our books.

With each book, comes 5 printable extension activities that correlate with the book. This is the key and what solidifies learning for young readers.

These activities range from comprehension questions to sequences, math, cutting/pasting and story recap.

If a young reader needs more help with a reading code, we offer games and activities on each reading code. This helps with increased exposure, and the games make it fun. All games and activities are printable.

We use the term ‘Reading Codes’ for multi-letter combinations, also known as phonograms. These multi-letter phonograms can be difficult to teach, because they can have multiple sounds. (th, ir, sh, ea, etc.) 

By calling these phonograms reading codes, we make it fun for young learners to look for them in books and make their sounds.

This is one of the most common questions we get asked. To answer this, we've created a 5 Day e-course that shows you how you can introduce the reading codes in just 5 minutes a day.

This course gives you a process and offers video instruction and lays out each day so all you have to do is follow it.

We purposely don't level our books. However, there are 5 books in each series and they progress in difficulty as students move forward in the series. 

It sets students up for success as they can start with easier text and only move on when they are ready for the challenge. 

Should students struggle, they can stay at the book they’re at until they have mastered their decoding skills and strengthened their fluency.

Small group literacy activities: board games, memory, go fish cards, bingo cards.

You certainly can and we highly recommend doing so. You can project the digital books on your SMARTBoard or projectors to do whole group / small group reading. Whatever is best for your classroom.

It's important for students to know ALL the sounds of the alphabet, have a good understanding of long and short vowels sounds.
